no
repro here!! This
rare-as-hen's-teeth
cardboard baseball broadside measures approximately
22" x 14
, on thick stock with black and red graphics, photos and text. The baseball game between the Lions and Larks was played in
San Jose, California
at
San Jose Stadium
(aka San Jose Municipal Stadium, built in 1941-42). Both teams played in the "one year wonder" Negro League, the
West Coast Negro Baseball Association
(the league was formed in 1946, and officially folded the following year; the league came and went so quickly that few baseball fans today know it ever existed!). The league included the two teams on this fabulous baseball broadside, plus the
Seattle Steelheads, Los Angeles White Sox, Portland Rosebuds
and
Fresno Tigers
. It was the last of baseball's Negro Leagues, created because organized baseball had banned black players; it was the only Negro League on the West Coast. This vintage Negro Leagues broadside features an outstanding team photograph of the
San Francisco Sea Lions
. Also pictured towards the bottom of sign is Lions player
Jesse Alexander
(misspelled "Jessie" on the sign), who was promoted as the
"One-Armed Outfielder"
. At bottom edge of sign, there's a "Union Printing" logo along with "Harwinski Printing Co., Oakland, California".

Condition
: the cardboard shows age toning, along with obvious age/handling faults from original display for the 1946 game (creases, tears, nail holes, stains, etc.). Based on the wear, I'd guess the sign was nailed to a street post (or something similar) to advertise the game, then torn down afterwards. There are eleven (11) photos; please view
all
to help you determine condition for yourself. With that being said, this vintage Negro Leagues memorabilia remains
solid
overall; the physical integrity of the broadside is excellent, and the sign simply
