rare
vintage football sign measures approximately
21" x 11"
and features bright colors of red, orange and green. I believe this signage was once displayed on a San Francisco trolley car, to advertise the "New Years Day"
Shrine All-American East-West Football Game
. Based on the football graphics and text, the sign most likely dates to the 1930's era or thereabouts. The sign mentions "reserved seats" at , and and also says
"Citizen's Committee"
in the bottom/right border. This Kezar Stadium sign is most definitely a "survivor"....and possibly
one-of-a-kind!!!

History

Kezar Stadium
was an outdoor athletics stadium in
San Francisco, California
which opened in 1925. The following year, the stadium became the home of the
East-West Shrine Game
. This annual charity football game was a post-season college football all-star game that was sponsored by the fraternal group Shriner's International. The stadium is the former home of the
San Francisco 49ers
, and the
Oakland Raiders
also played there for their inaugural season. The stadium had many uses during the 1930's. In addition to track and field competitions,
Kezar Stadium
also hosted motorcycle racing, auto racing, rugby, lacrosse, soccer, baseball, boxing, cricket and football. The stadium was also featured in the Clint Eastwood "Dirty Harry" film, with the movie's antagonist, "Scorpio" working as caretaker of Kezar while he lived under the grandstand.

Condition:
the antique football sign exhibits age/handling faults, to include staining, cardboard loss in two corners, a crease in the upper/left corner and other miscellaneous flaws. Amazingly, other than the crease in the upper/left corner, the sign is mostly
crease-free!!
The sign's colors still come through loud and clear!! The sign is deserving of professional matting & framing, and will
display super!!!
