    Description

    Antique REINHARD GELDMACHER German Surgeon's scalpels and surgical instruments including original case.
    Reinhard Geldmacher operated in the late 1800's to the early 1900's and was a cutlery and razor manufacturer as well as surgical tools.  He was established in the
    SOLINGEN area of GERMANY which was a major cutlery manufacturing area at that time.  These surgical scalpels were manufactured in the "pre-sterilization era" when
    medical instruments had handles made of ebony, rosewood or bone.
    INSTRUMENTS INCLUDED ARE:

    Metal hook and scoop instrument
    Wood spool shuttle with thread
    Paper wad containing curved and straight needles
    Scalpel handles are made of ebony and in very nice condition - no chips or cracks - very sharp.  "Germany" on blade tang on one side - "R. Geldmacher - Soligen" on the other side.
    Blade goes through and into the handle.  All instruments in good condition.   Tongue and groove CASE is made of mahogany with brass hinges and metal opening clasp.  Good
    condition for its age - no chips or cracks, just surface scratches and marks.  Case measures 7" long, 2.25" wide and 1.25" high.
