    Description

Antique Pre Civil War Weigand & Snowden Spring Lancet Surgical Bleeding Instrument  in Case
This very old spring Lancet, used by physicians for blood letting, dates from 1824-1855, the years when its makers, Weigand and Snowden, made surgical instruments together in Philadelphia. The body is brass and the blade steel. Maker's mark and location are painly visible on the Lancet body.  The instrument rests in a brown velvet lined leather box/case, however, the lid has become detached from the base owing to its very old age. Lovely item. Measures 3 1/4 x 1 3/4 inches, and the box is 4 x 2 1/4 inches.
