    Description

    A Early Antique 17th - 18th century pewter medical surgeons instrument. A beautiful pewter syringe with a barrel that unscrews to remove head and plunger. Plunger wrapped with linen to provide suction. Small suction syringe that was to take the place of Soldier Suckers, bands of women and men employed on the battlefield to suck the wounds of soldiers removing the dirt and infection. Also used for urethral injections to treat venereal disease. Used to treat Syphilis and Gonorrhea by application of urethral injections. This syringe has a wonderful old patina showing lots of medical history. Excellent condition with smooth threads that tighten down tight. No cracks, damage,or repairs a nice early example. 6” long.
