Antique Medical 1800s Doctors Folding Uterine Sound Obstetrical Instrument

Description

A antique medical doctors folding uterine sound obstetrical instrument.  Signed CODMAN & SHURTLEFF.  Civil War period instrument, dates 1860-70.  Unique design, handle folds in.  The handle is made of gutta percha hard rubber with checkered cut grips.  Slide ring locks the folding blade in place.  Blade is graduated with bulb end.  Wonderful original silver finish, shows old patina with medical history.  Excellent condition, no cracks, chips to handle.  No damage to blade.  Folds and locks nice.  Total length 12 1/4", Folded 8 3/8".  Please e-mail with questions.
